As we look forward to the future releases Of Disney’s WDCC line we here at the Collection Shop are also forced to look back at the latest releases. And though all of WDCC’s releases are fun in one way or another my personal favorite releases in the last 3 months were: Anytime You Need Me, You Know, Just Whistle feauturing Pinnochio and Jiminy Cricket (June); I’m So Happy, I Think I’ll Give You a Kiss featuring Peter Pan, Wendy, and Tinker Bell (July); and Meritorious Moment featuring Russell and Carl Fredrickson (August). All of which are lighthearted precursors for the September releases: Poisonous Plot and Graveyard Shift. Photographs of the prototypes for these two pieces can be seen below.
Unlike releases of the past few months the next pieces to be released have a depictions of both sinister characters and environments. This can be seen in the contrast of color, composition and subject between pieces like Poisonous Plot and Meritorious Moment. But this is why we love Disney, they consistently hit as many registers as possible. While the latest release is nostalgic in its depiction of the beloved characters of Up, an animated comedy adventure about a 78-year-old man who ties balloons to his house and flies away, with an 8-year-old stowaway. Evil Witch evokes an, “Oh noooo!” The epitome of evil, the wicked witch has a precious but poisonous cargo aboard her boat; a cursed apple intended to destroy innocent Snow White. This piece will be a Limited Edition of 750 pieces. Graveyard Shift on the other hand will be a smaller edition of 250! A commemoration of the most memorable moments from Disney’s Haunted Mansion Attraction. A graveyard caretaker and his dog stand frozen in a moment of absolute fear amongst the dank and cold surroundings immediately in front of the cemetery’s gates.
Though the newest of the WDCC collection, Meritorious Moment, is part of my favorite of the latest releases. All of which are bubbly and classically fun-spirited. Both releases for the month of September are excitingly darker and posses a sense of imminent danger that many of us here at the Collection Shop find fearfully refreshing! Keep a look out for a limited number of the Graveyard Shift, all hand crafted, hand-painted, kiln-fired porcelain with hand-cast pewter, bronze and brass components. And don’t forget to place your orders and pre-orders at TheCollectionShop.com!
